EJ Aguayo

EJ is a lobbyist representing clients across education, healthcare, goods movement, budget, etc. Prior to joining KP Public Affairs, he served as Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Mike Gipson, after previously serving as Legislative Director and as Caucus Consultant for the Assembly Democratic Caucus. Drawing on nearly a decade of experience in state and local government, EJ brings a results-driven approach to advocacy, combining strategic policy expertise with a proven ability to build coalitions and cultivate relationships across government, industry, and stakeholder organizations. He has developed strong working relationships with the administration, legislative leadership, constitutional offices, state agencies, and key members of California's Capitol community, allowing him to help clients navigate California's complex legislative and regulatory landscape. Leveraging his experience on both the policymaking and advocacy sides of government, EJ develops practical, forward-thinking strategies that advance clients' priorities and deliver meaningful results.

 Experience:

  • Oversaw millions in direct investments for the District and Statewide through the budget process, including $1.25 million for the South Bay Center for Counseling to support the expansion of the Strength Based Community Change's Thriving Families Well-being Initiative, $80 million for Juvenile Court Schools, $25 million for Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital, etc.

  • Successfully led key investments in K-12 around teacher recruitment and retention, STEM education, mental health counseling and family support services, juvenile court and community schools, community green spaces, etc.

  • Organized efforts in the prevention of MLK Jr. Community Hospital, which hosts one of the last maternity wards in its region, from closure.

  • Spearheaded historic reforms related to use of force, firearms, de-escalation, and various training policies.
